Italienske Jacopo Spirei er inne i sin andre åremålsperiode som professor i regi på Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo og har vært tilknyttet operaakademiene i Köbenhavn, Royal Conservatoire i Skotland og Academia della Scala i Milano. Han elsker å jobbe med unge sangtalenter. Og de med han.

Jacopo er utdannet både som film- og operaregissør med skarpt blikk for det underfundige, morsomme og crazy. Jacopo har hele verden som sin arbeidsplass: Italia, USA, Tyskland, Østerrike, Sverige, Danmark, Storbritannia, Colombia mm. Han bor i Firenze med norsk kone og liten datter.

Han er prisbelønnet og ettertraktet, og det er med stor glede og ikke så lite stolthet vi presenterer han her som vår regissør for «Regimentets Datter»

Jacopo var på Oscarsborg og så vår «Aida» i 2019, og ble vilt begeistret for arenaen og alle muligheter som ligger der. Sammen med scenograf Mauro Tinti, lysdesigner Guiseppe di’Iorio og kostymedesigner Line Maher skaper de en fargesterk og lekendeforestilling om guttejenta Marie og hennes regiment. Til Donizettis herlige musikk. Det er bare å glede seg.

Vi har ringt Jacopo i Firenze og spurt hva han tenker om produksjonen og hva publikum kan vente seg:

I was lucky to be invited to Oscarsborg a couple of years ago to see a performance of Aida, the place literally stole my heart the second I set foot on the island!
It is such a unique venue, the whole place is an experience and knowing you’ll be there participating in an opera performance, makes your experience as an audience completely unique. Once you arrive you’re already, in a way, «inside the show» , not to mention the incredible charm of the fortress in itself!

Fille du Regiment it’s a fairy tale, it’s a tale about the coming of age, it’s about understanding who we are and what are our values, and how we act accordingly.
It’s a story told in the shape of a comedy, a very funny one in fact; it plays with the idea of war and soldiers, what place on earth would be better than Oscarsborg for it?!

We have decided with Mauro Tinti, set designer, and Line Maher, costume designer, to turn the whole fortress into a massive table game of Risk, in this environment the young and headstrong Marie, can find her own way to grow up without abiding to any outside rules but her own, she’ll be confronted with what society expects of her and what she wants and desire.
I’m really looking forward to working with Audun and Lina in this production, we worked together once when they were studying in Copenhagen and now it will be great to meet up again and create these two amazing characters, surrounded by a stellar cast, it will be a blast.

After all the postponements and after such a tough year it’s going to be amazing to be back on stage working, creating worlds, making our world a better place through our art.
